A Modern Day Tale Of David & Goliath

A Modern Day Tale Of David & Goliath

We all face challenges ever so often, and that is all part and parcel of life. Yet, there are days where we can feel so demotivated or affected by certain set backs that it just doesn’t seem like things will get better. However, if there is one thing that has been tested time and again, it is that perseverance and fighting against all odds will mould you into becoming a stronger and better you. If you need some proof, check out Erin Brockovich, the real life story of a woman’s struggle with her Goliath and how she fought her way to victory.

Erin Brockovich (2000)

Erin Brockovich is a film based on the true story of a Californian environmental activist and law clerk. Despite having not studied law, Erin managed to single-handedly build a successful case against the Pacific Gas and Electric Company of California in 1993.

    Juggling life

This movie is a story of how sheer will and human spirit can trump despite a myriad of hurdles in life. It’s a story of an unemployed single mom who gets a job as a legal clerk with a firm in California. It’s quite fascinating and moving how the legal assistant brings down a power company in California accused of polluting the city’s water supply.

It’s a fabulous screen adaptation by Susannah Grant. Although it lacks the melodrama found in most films, Erin Brockovich addresses many real-life issues. We can all identify with Brockovich’s struggle to strike a balance between her family, work, and life. Of course, the feminist undertones of the movie might not cajole to men deeply. Nonetheless, the film underscores a woman’s journey of self-discovery and passion for bringing justice to her city.

    Against All odds

The core message in Erin Brockovich is undoubtedly bigger than Julia Robert’s bosom in the movie. Although it’s a drama, the plot can be best described as a struggle. The protagonist is always fighting for what she believes is the right thing. And against all opposing forces and odds, she emerges a winner. The theme and her struggles can apply to our lives too. It teaches us that we should work towards what we believe in despite all the life’s setbacks, complications, and moral struggles.
