Evening routines
Evening Routines of Huberman, Ferriss, Franklin, Mel Robbins and More, Side by Side
Three of them are in bed by 9 p.m., and one keeps working until 2 a.m. The ones who wind down share three moves: getting tomorrow ready, a last look back at the day, and a quiet stretch with less light and fewer screens before bed. Those are the ones worth copying first.
What They Have in Common
Get tomorrow ready tonight
Mel Robbins clears the kitchen and lays out her workout clothes where she will see them. Rich Roll sets out his gym gear so he feels he has already started when he wakes. Franklin's evening opened with putting things back in their places.
Look back at the day
Franklin closed each day by asking "What good have I done to-day?" and marking his slips in a notebook. Ferriss fills in the night half of the 5-Minute Journal: three good things and what could have gone better. Both take a few minutes and a pen.
A quiet stretch before bed
Johnson gives the last 30 to 60 minutes to reading, walking or meditating, with screens away. Ferriss reads to wind down. Huberman dims the lights and puts his phone on airplane mode about an hour before sleep. Rich Roll says his morning starts the evening before, with a proper wind-down. Even Musk plays a hard video game to calm his mind.
Get outside once more
Huberman walks the dog again around sunset for late-afternoon light. Johnson starts his wind-down with a 10-minute walk when work ends.
Make room for people
Franklin's plan gives the evening to supper, music and conversation. Johnson spends it with friends and family after his walk. Ferriss blocks out two date nights a week so work can't crowd them out.
