Ubuntu 13.10 has officially been released with the moniker Saucy Salamander. Though its best feature has to be that name, the close runner is the new smart scopes working in to the Unity interface. These so called “smart scopes” allow you to enter a string in the Unity search bar and find results from all over the web.

YouTuber Quidsup does a great job demoing this powerful new feature in the video below. As you’ll see, you can disable and enable any of the multitude of search scopes to customize your results. You’ll be able to choose major sites like Amazon.com, DeviantArt.com and WeatherChannel.com to display useful content right in your Unity menu. It’s a bit slow, but the functionality is excellent and certainly fun to play around with.

Make sure your friends know about this exciting new feature and download Ubuntu 13.10 today.
