No matter how safe of a driver you are, accidents can happen. If you’re ever in an emergency situation where your car is partially submerged in or filling up with water, this video shows how you can use a headrest to break your car window. Doing this will not only allow you to get out through the window, but also makes it easier for you to open the door – since it helps to equalize the water pressure on both sides of the door.

This is just a demonstration video and it’s in another language, but you’ll get the gist of how to break your car window just by watching; it’s an excellent survival skill that can be a true lifesaver. Starting at the 0:24 mark, you’ll see that you don’t just take your headrest and start hitting the window with the sharp pointy ends. There’s a specific technique you’ll need to follow.

This method is really great if you don’t have any other type of handy tool readily available for breaking car windows.
