Nobody wants to waste fruits and vegetables from the store, but sometimes it’s easier to go to a restaurant and forget about them in the refrigerator. If this is something that happens to you on a regular basis, it may be time to prioritize the produce that you buy in an effort to be more efficient with your purchases. Not only is wasting food morally hard to stomach, but it costs a lot of money too!

Here are a few of the produce items that take a long time to go bad:

1. Apples – drop them in a plastic bag away from other vegetables and these can last for weeks
2. Beets – although not widely consumed, these can last anywhere between 2 – 4 months
3. Cabbage – wrapped in plastic, cabbage can last up to 2 months in the fridge
4. Carrots – keep carrots dry and they can last from a few weeks to a few months
5. Garlic – at room temperature, garlic can last for months
6. Potatoes – these can last between 2 – 4 months, but sweet potatoes go bad quickly
