No one wants to get food poisoning, but raw meats are loaded with dangerous bacteria such as e coli and salmonella. That’s why you need to master meat preparation if you want to eat safely at home.

Fortunately, this useful infographic by SafeFood guides you through the meat preparation process all the way from purchasing a good piece of meat in the store to cleaning up after your food is prepared.

While much of the information here is common sense -like using or freezing meat by its use-by date, many people don’t know some of these important meat preparation safety measures -for example, never store your raw meat above ready-to-eat foods because the juice could leak and contaminate your other food. Additionally, if you’re cooking something large, like a whole turkey, make sure to check the meat in multiple places to ensure it is cooked all the way through, not just in certain areas.
