Just because you love something doesn’t mean you can do it right. And while plenty of people think making coffee is easy, there is actually a whole lot of things that can go wrong. If you find that your coffee just doesn’t taste quite right, this guide to fixing the problems with your coffee can help you get back on the right track.

For example, if one of the problems with your coffee is that it tastes way too sour, that means you aren’t giving the beans long enough to extract and develop their rich, complex flavor. On the other hand, if it is too bitter, you probably have the opposite problem and your let your coffee extract too much.

Of course some problems with your coffee aren’t so easy to diagnose, but if you at least know that the off flavor could be from poor water, low quality coffee, dirty coffee equipment or other issues, at least you can experiment to figure out how to fix it.
