In the USA alone 1.3 million people live with HIV, one fifth of which are thought to be completely unaware of their condition. A new condom created by Australian biotechnology firm Starpharma designed to kill HIV and various other STDs could be available to everyone in just a couple of months!
Created in collaboration with Australia’s largest condom manufacturer Ansell, the ‘VivaGel’ condom reduces the chance of pregnancy like a typical condom, but has also been proven to kill a massive 99.9% of viruses. VivaGel helps to irradiate viruses via it’s specially formulated lubricant. The lube contains 0.5% astrodrimer sodium (a non-antibiotic) and an antimicrobial drug which is known to fight HIV.
Peter Carroll, the president of Ansell and general manager of The Sexual Wellness Global Business Unit has told consumers they should expect to see the “ground-breaking new sexual health” condom in stores soon. He stated that, “Ansell looks forward to rolling out its marketing and sales campaign to support the launch of LifeStyles Dual Protect over the coming months with the first product expected to be available on shelves soon.”
