When someone asks you if it’s better be bilingual, the educated answer is pretty much always going to be yes, but there are a few exceptions, depending on the specific situation. Bilingual children have better focus and as they age, they will often be more creative, better planners, better problem solvers and healthier mentally and physically.
As most countries are bilingual, speaking multiple languages can also help you travel both for personal and professional purposes. Because bilingualism helps you communicate with persons from other countries, it also results in higher pay at work.
There are a handful of benefits to being monolingual though, they tend to have a larger vocabulary (especially as young children) and they are faster at choosing the right words to use in conversation. Still, it is better overall to be bilingual.
