Inspired by the fable commonly know as ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’, this clip by College Humour tells the story of a man who uses the word incorrectly all the time, yet by the time he uses it correctly it’s too late. The video depicts a harsh lesson, but the use of ‘literally’ in a statement where it is unnecessary and incorrect is extremely irritating to some people — for example, people who speak English well — so if you take anything from this story let it be that: “if you keep saying ‘literally’ when you mean ‘figuratively,’ you will be stabbed by a vagrant and die.” You have been warned.
