Due to the multicultural nature of fine dining, some words can be tricky to pronounce. Many food-related terms, particularly those pertaining to gourmet food, are French, which requires speakers to drop and/or swallow many letters, adding to the confusion. Recently, Huffington Post published an article which listed many of the commonly mispronounced words that have to do with food. One of the trickiest words on their list is bouillabaisse — an absolutely delicious French seafood stew pictured above — which is pronounced BOOL-yuh-BAYZ by most, but some people choose to pronounce the final syllable as BEHZ. Another challenging phrase is haricots verts, which literally translates to green beans, and requires the speaker to drop the h, as well as the final letters on both words. Who knew that talking about food could be such hard work!?

Which of these food related terms do you find most difficult? Were you mispronouncing any of them? Share your responses below!
