Brazilian graphic designer Carol Rossetti’s brilliant, beautiful and brave illustrations have been getting a lot of attention recently. Currently named “WOMEN in English” this collection touches on a range of topics that have clearly had a huge impact on individuals around the world. The illustrations tackle issues such as LGBTQ identity, racism, ableism, sexism, ageism and body image amongst many others that collectively encourage women to be true to themselves, respect others and above all live outside of and question societies’ idea of beauty.
“It has always bothered me, the world’s attempts to control women’s bodies, behavior and identities,” Rossetti told Mic. “It’s a kind of oppression so deeply entangled in our culture that most people don’t even see it’s there, and how cruel it can be.
“I can’t change the world by myself. But I’d love to know that my work made people review their privileges and be more open to understanding and respecting one another.”
