During a recent broadcast of CBS News’ ‘On The Road’ segment, 8-year-old Myles Eckles’ touching story of generosity was shared with millions. Having found a $20 bill in the local Cracker Barrel’s parking lot, Myles began thinking of video games he could spend his found fortune on. However when Myles saw a solider, Lt. Colonel Frank Daly, sitting inside he decided to wrap the $20 in a note and gave the money to Daly. The note read:
“Dear Soldier,
My dad was a soldier. He’s in heaven now. I found this $20 in the parking lot when we got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. It’s your lucky day! Thank you for your service.
Myles Eckles, a gold star kid.”
Myles’ father Sergeant Andy Eckles had died in Iraq when Myles was just five-weeks-old. After passing on the note and the money, he went to visit his father’s grave and shared the story with him. Daly, meanwhile, told interviewers that Myles had given him a “lifetime direction” and he means to use Myles’ generosity to inspire others.
