Tim Warner has done a good piece on how to handle ‘stumper’ questions constructively. He against to try to confuse your audience by change the subject, stall for time and intimidate the questioner. He suggests there are four constructive way to deal with those questions:
- Rephrasing the question
- Redirecting the question to the audience/class
- Admitting your ignorance
- Finding a solution
Redirecting the question to the audience/class and rephrasing the question give impressions of you dodging the questions as well. The best idea I can see is be honest that you don’t know the answer, and then initiate a discussion with audience, or/and find a solution later.
