Feeling stuck? Are you doing the same thing day in and day out? Don’t think your life is going anywhere? You, my friend, are in a rut. You’re not alone. People have been feeling life their life is in a rut ever since we stopped having to run from predators every day in order to survive.

But while this problem has hung around since antiquity, that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. In fact, Pick the Brain has a great list of 9 ways to get yourself out of a rut. A few of the highlights:

  • Figure out why you feel stuck. Addressing the problem is the first step to creating a solution.
  • Journal. When you spend a few minutes every day detailing your problems, you’ll be amazed at how fast you start to come up with solutions.
  • Ask people close to you. Getting a new perspective can change everything.
  • Brainstorm. Try to figure out ways to move your life forward and get out of your current rut.

Of course, even simple things can help. Try switching up your morning routine or driving home from work using a different route. Sometimes a tiny change can make you feel like you’ve made a big change in your life.
