There is a wrong perception common to most people who automatically ascribe a pearly white set of teeth to indicate healthy teeth. We cannot really blame them because this notion can only be tied against the backdrop of the many glorified adverts about teeth care products. It will behoove many to note that a lot of us are satisfied when we are able to get off that coloration on our teeth, but not ready to adapt healthier lifestyles. No doubt, a white set of teeth is appealing, endearing and all good for the camera. The only bit that might shock you is the fact that not all those shiny whites are necessarily healthy.

The myth about the color of your teeth

In this article by Claudia Hammond of the BBC, she set all out to dispel a medical myth that is accepted far and wide about the dissatisfaction with the color of teeth by people. Claudia pointed out that a number of factors actually affect teeth coloration and this includes our genes, age, the things we eat, drink and certain medications; with many of them factors beyond our control. A stained set of teeth may not be unhealthy, the stains may be from food and drink accumulated over time.

The truth about the color of your teeth

A seemingly perfect set of white teeth may have gum infections and be plagued with cavities. You may find this hard to believe, but teeth color is not directly related to the health status of the teeth. For instance, the black stain is believed by many researchers to protect against tooth decay. The black stain is said to contain calcium, phosphate, various bacteria and some form of iron and copper compounds. They are in fact believed to prevent tooth decay and more stain. This is another viable reason to embrace the stains.

The importance of oral hygiene

Teeth color largely boosts confidence and appeal and this is why teeth whitening will remain an industrial practice that will never go extinct. Much of our persona depends on what we have on the inside, but I tell you that it is not a bad idea to look attractive and endearing on the outside as well. Need I say, oral care is important, having a healthy set of teeth is non-negotiable, but it is clearly a personal choice to ensure the teeth are white at all times. It does not add in any way to your health status, but it sure makes you look more appealing.

No matter the color of your teeth, no rule stops you from smiling. So here is the charge – smile, smile, smile, but of course, that should be after you read the full article here. There are a handful of insights for your perusal.
