How Do You Define “Old”?
The definition of aging or “being old” varies depending on who you ask. Some individuals are linear in their definition and consider anyone older than them to be old, while others consider or use certain preconceived attributes or values to define who is “old.” So, it is not surprising that arriving at a consensus remains an elusive goal.
Millennials were asked questions about what it means to be old. Here is what happened.
“What age do you consider to be old?”
60’s, 70’s, 80s…
“Show me how an old person would cross the street.”
Then, they were introduced to some real “old” people.
They were instructed to “Teach each other something that you are good at.”
In the end, the Millennials gained a new perspective and changed their initial definitions of “old”:
- One is only as old as one feels.
- Age is just a number.
- Growing old has a lot to do with your belief system.
- Aging is not about decline, rather it is about growth.
