Use Foxit 2.0 for PDFs instead of Adobe Reader

20070307-foxit.JPG

Foxit Reader is a free PDF reader similar to Adobe Reader. Although this is not the “newest news,” I have been so happy with Foxit lately that I figured it warranted an introduction. Foxit Reader has pretty much all of the features of Adobe Reader except it loads way faster. If you spend a lot of time each day reading PDFs, you’re probably very sick of waiting for Adobe to load. Give Foxit a try and let us know what you think. Foxit loads two to three times faster than Adobe — I guarantee you will see gains in your productivity.

I’m used to zoom with CTRL+Wheel in Adobe Reader and think Foxit lacks this feature, or?
But the loading process is really fast, even compared with Adobe Reader preloaded.

You still may want to hang onto Adobe Reader since Foxit sometimes has problems reading PDFs that have large embedded images in them or if the PDF is a scan of a document.

I was just reading a bunch of PDFs yesterday and whining about how long they took to load in Adobe Reader… this is much better!

I switched to Foxit Reader about three months ago and have never looked back. It loads so fast it makes me wonder what Acrobat Reader is doing. Foxit also works very well when launched from Firefox (unlike Acrobat).

I installed Foxit two weeks ago and removed Adobe Reader. Then, yesterday, I stumbled upon a pdf that was password encrpyted. When I entered the password, all I saw was scrambled text. Definitely a good alternative, but still needs more work.

acrobat reader 7 and 8 not only load slower because they want to show off their useless and cannot be disable reading feature and also we wont forget very annoying splash screen that happen to us during interaction with Acrobat Reader 6. This splash screen should be a big lesson to acrobat reader company BUT seem to be they did not learn from their mistakes yet.
