UltraMon: Multi-Monitor Manager
Using multiple monitors on one computer system is an excellent productivity hack. Having more things on hand, visually, means you can more easily and quickly access what you want.
Ultramon is some very comprehensive management software for multiple monitor users. From taskbar and desktop image management to program shortcuts and tiling; a lot is featured, including different resolutions for each monitor - with a huge number of monitors allowed.

I could not live without Ultramon. I have been using it for years, it is the best application out there!

It must be well good to have 2 monitors. I would have one for media and one for internet.

Multiple monitors are nice but multiple machines are better. A program called Synergy lets you control multiple machines of different operating systems. At work I have a Mac, Windows, 2 Gentoo Linux, and one Solaris machine under control with one keyboard and mouse. You can download this for free at http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/

what exactly is necessary to run dual monitors? (other than 2 monitors, of course) does it have to do with your video card?

I used ultramon so that i could stretch wallpapers across my 2 desktops at work.. i didn’t really use any of the other features.
for dual monitors you need 2 video cards or a video card with 2 outputs.

Not true.
I used ultramon with Maxivista.
Maxivista allows you to use the monitor on a 2nd PC as part of your system.

Ultramon is the best company out there for multiple monitor taskbar software. I bought a quad monitor array from http://www.multiplexpc.com about 4 months ago and they preinstalled Ultramon on there for me and it definitely helps.
