“Do you know any other ways to do the same thing?”
Not the same thing but maybe complementary. There is a free videoconferencing tool which just been released:
http://www.wengomeeting.com/
- Flash based (no need to install a client)
- Up to 5 video streams (webcams)
- Just need one account for the host
- Can handle private sessions
- Free (as in beer)
I’m going to try it, looks good on the paper.

Tom and frenchy,
Sorry guys, but your posts are seriously commercial in nature. You guys need to tone it down. Why don’t you just pay for proper press releases. Anyway, I just tried Yugma and it was really easy and fast. I’m very impressed. Will use it at my sales team review tomorrow.

@ Tom :
I’m an Open Source developer but I don’t know at all the people behind Wengomeeting.
My prefered software for videoconferencing is VLCV which is a GPL plugin on the GPL VLC player:
http://www.vlvc.net/en-home.html
http://www.videolan.org/
VLVC is still a little complex to use for general public and not ready for primetime yet (hopefuly soon it will be integrated in VLC itself).
I don’t know any effective Free (as in beer or as in freedom) videoconferencing tool. If you do please show the way ! :)
Also Wengo contribute code to the Open Source community. It doesn’t look like it’s the case with Yugma …
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wengo
Also I didn’t see any commercial options on top of the free Wengomeeting but I can clearly see them in Yugma …
https://www.yugma.com/about/product-info.php
That said I’m very pleased with Yugma since Breeze and Webex will at last have some competition.
Anyway thanks Tom for the joke ;)

We use Yugma at http://webcastacademy.net to get together a group of distance learners who are learning how to do live Internet webcasting. We then can show screens of facilitators for demos, and then view screens of learners to troubleshoot their problems. It works great and it’s free. Hard to beat.

Of interest to Web 2.0 companies:
Yugma will have virtual stage at Web 2.0 (April 15-18; San Francisco). At Yugma, we believe good ideas deserve to be shared, regardless of the
resources of their creators. That’s why we are using our software to turn our booth at the Web 2.0 conference into a virtual stage. We’re calling the project Stage 2, and are currently seeking individuals and companies who wouldn’t otherwise have a presence to share their ideas and products.
If you have content to share (best practices, innovative idea, new
invention, product or service), please visit
http://www.yugma.com/stage2 to read more information about participating. Slot are limited, so please enter your submission as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Karel Lukas

I’m not sure if these are exactly the same in purpose, but what immediately came to my mind is a little program called “Hamachi” from the people at logmein.com. It basically creates a 100% closed and direct peer-to-peer connection, identical in function to a LAN or wired P2P connection between computers, only it’s across the internet. It’s entirely free and devoid of commercial content. Very cool! :)
@ Mary,
the article explicitly asked for suggestions of other products that might be available, so I have a hard time understanding how the above comments represent commercialism in any way.
If I’m guilty of the same, consider that I’m just a kid who came across a link to this by chance and is currently unemployed, no less…

We use Yugma for our remote live sessions. We signed-up for a Personal Service. When you schedule a meeting with multiple email address, it sends an email to everybody and puts everybody’s address in the email, I would like to see email sent to each individual without displaying others email id. Not sure if this is a feature in professional version.

The most accurate resource on the web for finding the right web conferencing vendor, solution, or product is the annual product reviews and Top Ten list from the Web Conferencing Council. This free report is found on their site at HTTP://www.webconferencingcouncil.com. This year’s best of class award went to VIA3 from http://www.viack.com.
