Ask the readers: should you bring your laptop on the road?
This morning I was tipped to two interested, but opposing, views as to whether you should travel with your laptop. I have always been pro-laptop when on the road, but the argument to go “laptop-less” is pretty strong. What do you think? When you hit the road is your laptop a necessity or a do-without? I would say that its a necesisity. I’m sitting here this morning, wiriting this from our KOA campsite as we are traveling across the country from around Detroit Michigan to Tucson Arizona. Its been great to check the weather and road conditions as we stop for the night and just keep up with general email from my office so they are not trying to call me on vacation.

Why would you even have a laptop if not to take it with you? I know that sometimes it is a nuisance having work with you, but you don’t have to use it for work. I watch movies, listen to music, BLOG, on the road with mine. For me this is a no brainer.

Take your laptop with you.
But don’t install any productivity software. Set your computer to block the website you use for webmail. Don’t use it for work. Load it up with games and fun stuff!

There are desktop virtualization software available now, like MojaPac. I have used the software and found it quite useful.

I wouldn’t bring my laptop on vacation. A properly planned vacation will give you enough recreational activities that you won’t need the computer. Bring books and a journal to expand your mind and take notes.

I cannot leave my laptop at home whenever I go on vacation — especially on long ones. I may use it or may not, but it is a sort or a lifeline to me wherein I can check the weather, news, mails, maps, etc.
