14 Numbers Your Cellphone Must Have

14 Numbers Your Cellphone Must Have

Emergencies: you must be prepared for them. What better device to load some just-in-case items than your cell phone?

From broken cars to rabid dogs, CrankingWidgets has 14 must-have numbers to dial in to your mobile’s address book. For me, that’s 14 more I have to find.

ICE (In Case of Emergency) - If you’re ever in an accident and are incapacitated or killed, the authorities who find you will likely look for this entry in your cell phone numbers (and call it). A spouse or relative capable of making decisions on your behalf would be best here.

I’m sure we can think of 14 more. What are your suggestions?

Just a hint about ICE - if you program it into your phone as *ICE, it should show up as the very first contact in your contacts list/address book. If you keep a hundred numbers (or more!) and a lot of them are from A-G, this could save the emergency responders a lot of scrolling.

On my phone, a V3, * puts it last. :( So I make mine [space]*ICE and that makes it first.

And I have to ICE numbers, my wife’s cell phone and my home number, and I label them *ICE - Wife and *ICE - Home so that they know what to expect when calling.

I am a firefighter and for the record! WE DO NOT LOOK IN PEOPLE CELL PHONES! My wife works at the hospital. And they don’t either.

A couple I keep on my cell are my auto insurance and my bank. That way if I’m in an accident (God forbid) I don’t have to fumble around for my agent’s number. Also having my bank number is handy in case I need to check my balance or transer funds when I’m not near a computer or ATM.

Andy, how are relatives contacted then?

I have a cousin who is a volunteer firefighter and they don’t touch cell phones. I’m starting to think this ICE is an urban legend and someone someday is going to expect it to work and get upset when no one looks at their phones and uses it.

This is a good list! I learned the hard way about the tow-truck suggestion. When you need one, you’re probably not going to have a phone book with you.

poision control, tow truck company, locksmiths number, taxi service, and your states highway patrol should have a number for current road conditions, good to have if u need it, and 1800 free 411, never hurts either.
