Since I work at several different locations, I need to… » Continue

Productivity Tools: Paper or Plastic?

LifeDev’s Productivity Tools section has a series of articles on the benefits of both paper tools for productivity against their digital counterparts and which you should use.
The underlying solution is that they aren’t counterparts at all but, instead, should be used in conjunction with each other.

  • Paper for creativity.
  • Digital for collaboration and archiving.

We think we’ve found it. This series shows the best features of both paper and digital tools, and… » Continue

Free Credit Rating Estimator

The DumbLittleMan has written about a handy tool to ‘accurately’ estimate your FICO credit score, which is important when you are applying for loans and what not.

He says it was very accurate, as he shelled out the $15 it usually costs to have a company give you this information and the results were similar.

Meanwhile, here are some things you can do to build your credit rating:

LifeDev’s Productivity Tools

Although we do try to keep track of many online and digital organizers that we may not use ourselves here at Lifehack, we don’t necessarily post all the updates.

That’s why it’s nice to see a site as good as LifeDev start up a Productivity Tools section that focuses on just that.

They’ve been doing well to cover most of the changes occurring in the online organizer field over… » Continue

Lifehack.org Podcast Episode 6 - Trial By Fire Productivity Introduction

We spend a lot of time researching, trying, and reading about methods, processes, tools, and techniques to make us more productive and efficient. The problem is that many of these tools and processes work well in theory, but don’t integrate well into our real-world workflow.

I began to wonder what other people use in their own systems. Not what they liked, thought was cool, or blogged about, but actually used. Day-in… » Continue

Trial By Fire Productivity - Brainstorming And High Level Planning Tools

This post is part of the Trial By Fire Productivity series.

I plan in my head.

Back when I was getting started as a freelance designer, I waited tables to help pay the bills. I was one of those waiters that kept orders in his head. I never wrote them down, and very rarely made a mistake. It was when I tried to write things down that I got… » Continue

Open a Can Without a Can Opener

Nothing too fancy here, just a demonstration from Instructables of how to open a can if you don’t have a can opener. I’ve had many occasions when I didn’t have a can opener and never thought to try opening the can with a knife. The typical disclaimers apply here: if you try this, be extra careful not to cut yourself. Do any of you know a safer… » Continue

Game Show Time Management

I’ve got it! This came to me on the ride to work this morning. We have systems for executing our tasks. We have Getting Things Done, which tells us to sweep our heads, capture the details, do our work in the right contexts, and keep the flow going. And I always say that what we need over this is a framework, to help direct our thoughts and mindset towards what… » Continue

Goal at Joe’s!

Not as catchy as “Eat at Joe’s,” I admit, but Ian has revealed to us his Ajaxy goal tracking software and it’s called Joe’s Goals.

It’s so simple, and yet so effective. It’s a calendar grid where you can throw your goals down the left hand side, assigning them either a check box for if it’s something good or an X box if it’s something you’re trying to improve. Then, once… » Continue
