Lifehack.org’s New Design
As you have noticed, I have incorporated a new design for Lifehack.org. I am sure this makes lifehack.org more appeal to you. Also the new page layout will help you read quickly on the post content. A new feature that you cannot miss is the tag section at the bottom of each page. Most of the recent posts (anything newer than 2 months old) are tagged with some meaningful tags for quick navigation.
In addition, the site has been moved to the server to accommodate the traffic of this site. You should see a sight speed increase and also should eliminate some of the reader’s reports on server errors.
Enjoy the new design!

It’s much better than the old one.

Agreed…this is a nice improvement. Congrats, Leon.

Nice!
(my firefox browser’s showing up a pretty big empty column (about 40 pixels) between the content and the right sidebar. Not sure if it was intentional)

It would be nice if the Google ads weren’t all over the blog. Too cluttered with those damn ads. Just being honest. Otherwise, you do a really nice job with the blog.

I second the google ads overload.
Also, link the logo to the homepage. And why is the home button hiding out waaaaay over there —-> ? It’s like you don’t want people to navigate back out of articles :)
“GOTCHA NOW! You’re not gonna get back!”
And I also have about a 100px whitespace to the right of the article and comment area

It looks nice, I like it. I also disagree with the complaints about placement of the ads. If there is a product advertised that I would like to learn more about, I would rather it be there where I can see it.

I love the new design, but I’d get rid of one set of the AdSense ads in the header.
It’s okay with me if you run the limit of 3, but maybe they’d be better spent in the posts, rather than 2 in the header.

Okay, so I’ll stick myself out and say I dislike the new design. It looks very cookiecutter like every other blog site. I did enjoy the prior version.

I agree with Alan. Ad overkill. It too difficult to separate the content from the advertising.

Love the new look.
Small suggestion: Make the Lifehack logo in the top left a link to the site itself.
Reason: Coming into a article from an external newsreader, you have to manually manipulate the URL to get to the top level of the site.
Keep it up!

I haven’t given it much time, since I usually get my lifehack through RSS, but it looks great. I didn’t like the old site much, which is what caused me to switch to RSS almost immediately.
Definitely a positive change!

The Google ads are a real distraction. They’re not even in one distinct area but spread all over the page. It’s ugly.
Otherwise the re-design looks great.

looks great.

The Google Adsense is fine and not too over the top, but when you put teh Adlink unit right beneath it becomes a bit over-the-top.
Better to put a verical adlink unit in the right column somewhere and keep the header cleaner. Anyone who says they can’t tell the ads from the content is either quite a noob on the web, or is being disingenuous.

It’s not too bad. I like it because it’s brighter and more visually stimulating, yet I do agree that it tends to kind of look like so many other blogs that you see with the round tabs. The ads I don’t care about, your site, you use them how they want (there are two that are really close together, are those useful FOR YOU?) I totally like the tags, but I suggest putting them on the side and making it three columns instead of having so much wasted space on the left and right and having to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the tags.
Alvin says on December 13th, 2005 at 2:01 pm
Nicer. I agree with Joshua, I didn’t even know the tag cloud was there til now.

I dislike the new website layout for two reasons. The first is that it looks very cookie cutter. The second is that it does not scale well on widescreen. So there you have it.
