This is a great post! However, there are a couple of incorrect statements. Troy Aikman did win in his first season as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. They were 1-15 that year (1989). That was Jimmy Johnson’s first year as coach, meaning he won a game as well. I say that not so much to ruin the mood of the great message, but to clarify some actual numbers. Tom Landry was 0-11-1 his first season as Dallas Cowboys coach.

Sorry, but the Lincoln quote does not come from 1858. It actually comes from 1841, when Lincoln had broken off his engagement to Mary Todd, and was in the throes of a major depression. By 1858, Lincoln was much more self-assured, though he continued to suffer periods of what he self-deprecatingly called “the hypo” (hypochondria) all his life.

The cartoonist’s name is correctly spelled Charles Schulz. There is no
‘t’ in his last name.

As a Cowboys fan, I must point out that Aikman missed 5 games in 1989, one of which was the only game Dallas won that season (and happened to be the only game I didn’t see that season, to boot). Technically he did win, he just was not playing.

FYI the Winston Churchill statement is also wrong – he was elected to parliament several times before he was prime minister.
