Win The War Of Office Politics

Win The War Of Office Politics

If you’re one of those lucky people who works in an office populated with gossip and politics, Bnet was kind enough to create this 5 step plan to dealing with this somewhat unavoidable part of the workplace.

  • 1. Figure Out Why (and If) You Want to Play
  • 2. Create Strong Relationships
  • 3. Observe and Listen – Gain the insight to predict and avoid roadblocks, and take advantage of scoring opportunities.
  • 4. Promote Yourself, Tactfully
  • 5. Help Your Colleagues
  • I’ve never really become a part of office politics, even when I did briefly work in one, so I’m interested to know how you guys get by.

Participate or not, take #3 to heart and don’t ignore office politics. The process of getting ahead or getting your way by means other than hard work and competence at your job may be morally objectionable or a waste of time to some, but that’s no excuse to let yourself get buried out of ignorance. As it says in the Good Book, “Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”
