Try A Four Day Work Week
It’s nothing new, but how would your life change if you took an extra day off work every week? If you were in a position to do so, why wouldn’t you?
And then it hit me: there will always be more to do. Working more won’t change that. In fact, working more is actually counter-productive. I was starting work everyday at 5:30 AM and working till 10:00 PM, but I still wasn’t done with everything. If I was working those extreme hours and still couldn’t keep up with my to-dos, then clearly working more wasn’t the solution.
Could you get the same ammount of work done each week if you managed yourself the right way? Could you just sacrifice some work for more free time?

My current workplace offers something sort of like this. I still work 80 hours in two weeks, but I do them in 9 workdays instead of 10, and have every other Friday off. And the Fridays that I’m on, instead of going to my usual office, I work at an office that’s within walking distance of my home.
I like it, because I can schedule appointments or do other business on that Friday off, or just sleep in. And working at the closer office on the other Fridays means that my workday is that much shorter, because my commute is a 30-minute walk. Plus, I have an office to myself at the closer office, versus the open cubicle setup at my usual office.

We have a very relaxed schedule where I work, as long as we fufill our 40 hours per week within the month, we are okay. So if i wanted to work 4 x 10hour days Mon-Thu, and take friday off, I can..
I usually opt to take Wed off if I can, as its easier to schedule appointments and get things done, also breaks up the week.

I know I could get more done in less time if I managed myself better. If I took better care of my eating habits and exercise I would have a higher level of energy throughout the day. If I stopped myself more often and said, “What’s the most important thing for me to focus on right now?” I know I would be guilty of wasting less time.

I’ve done just this. From April this year I dropped to working 32 hours a week (I don’t work Wednesdays) so that I can pursue my own interests.
I don’t find myself doing any extra hours at work, and it feels to me like I’m more focussed and more productive. I don’t know if that’s the compressed working hours, the fact that I’m more content as I have more time to do my own thing, or maybe a combination of the two.
And if you wonder why I chose Wednesdays as my non working day rather than Friday, it’s because there are things I want to do with my time and taking Fridays off just make it too easy to just have a long lazy weekend.

Easy solution: Work for the government. I work about 2 days a week aggressively to get work done, 2 days a week very relaxed to just socialize, and take 3 days off. Isn’t life wonderful.

Yeah, PTO, life sure is wonderful when you can live on other peoples’ work. Get a real job and quit stealing our money, eh?

Yeah, anyone figure out how to “softsell” the boss? I’m trying out this Cloning Yourself program and I’m getting things done faster…but I’m worried they’re going to just give me more work.
How did the conversation the the boss go?
