Breathing is one of those things we do so often and so naturally, that we almost never actually think about it. While those who practice yoga and meditation often focus on their breathing, other persons generally do not think about the activity at all unless they start working out too hard. But focusing on your breath can help you reduce your stress levels, lowering your blood pressure, stimulating your brain’s growth, fighting depression and reducing your over all stress levels. Focusing on your breathing can even help you do better during testing.
In fact, yoga, meditation and deep breathing can create a “relaxation response” that alters the way the body responds to stress by actually altering the expression of genes in the immune system.
