15 tools every homeowner should own
If you are a new homeowner (or apartment dweller) it’s likely that you haven’t amassed a collection of tools, just yet. MSN Real Estate created a list of the 15 most basic tools that any homeowner should have. MSN also claims that you should be able to buy all these tools for under $200:
- Toolbox
- Hammer
- Pry bar
- Vise-grips
- Needle-nose pliers
- Screwdrivers (mixed set)
- Wire cutter/stripper
- Tape measure (16 foot)
- Electrical tester
- Reversible drill with bit set
- 1/2 inch steel chisel
- Utility knife
- Handsaw
- 9-inch torpedo level
- Safety glasses
What do you think? Do you recommend any tools for the beginner that didn’t make the list?

These tools won’t help you much when you have to do something in the pitch black darkness: a flashlight should definitely be number one on the list !

I would suggest a stud finder…picture frames or heavy mirrors.

A Dremel. It’s like having 100 tools in one. Can’t imagine not having one.

A wrench is critical for being able to turn off the gas in case of an earthquake or other emergency, at least here in California.

Gotta agree with the flashlight and the stud finder…if your house is not that old. If you have an older house, a stud finder won’t help.
