Top 10 ways to look busy at work
Over at Okdork.com, there is a funny article on top 10 ways to look busy at work. Look around your office guys, see who is doing anything like these:
…
1- walk really fast when you are going anywhere as to appear something important is going to happen
2- carry a notebook with you at all times. seems like you are suppose to be somewhere taking notes. if at your desk keep it open with a pen on it
3- keep your headset on if you are in your cubicle
…
But don’t even try to use these methods if your boss is smart. Thanks Noah for the article!

Why not just do work?

I agree totally with Marc. All that stuff amounts to working harder to not do work than to actually just do the work.
But, a lot of people know these kinds of “tricks”. I’ve worked with too many people who actually put more effort into not working than I put into just getting the stuff done.
Getting things done that you need to is a much better “lifehack” than working hard to appear you’re getting things done.

That’s right. Both pretending and doing the work are spending “time”. It is just not effective to pretending to do work. No way our readers will apply these.
That’s why in the introduction I use the keyword “funny”on these tricks. And I think the orginial article is in the category humor as well.

Heh. Good point. I overlooked the word “funny” when reading the post.
I think I forgot to leave work at work and was still pissed at doing my busy looking cow-orker’s work.
Mea culpa.

The only reason I am reading this and might try some of this out is because of the difficult times our economy is in right now. I am the receptionist/secretary in a manufacturing plant and we are extremely slow! I am trying to find a way to look busy so that I can KEEP MY JOB and have money to live and support my family. It’s hard to “just do work” when there is no work to do! (and trust me, I would love to have a whole pile of work on my desk and not enough hours in the day to get it all done!)

For God sake! Talk about missing the point! The article is funny and I have seen at least two people in my office doing a number of these techniques. I’m pleased to say that I had some of these on the go before reading the article:)

OH MY GOSH! Why are you guies being so stupid over this? If you need to look busy at work, because you don’t have enough to do to keep busy then go for it. However, if you have enough to do without having to fake it, then more power to you. Do what you need to do and have fun! Duuh! lol.
