Do you remember a time your mobile’s battery is running low when you need to call someone? I think it happens a lot. jkOnTheRun has posted a pretty good article on battery charging “planning” and tips:
… Cell phones- if you have a car get a car power adapter for your phone which are very cheap now. Get in the habit of always keeping the phone charging while driving and you will never run dry during the day. A lot of phones have extended batteries available and while they add a little bulk and weight to the phone they are priceless when you need the juice…
He also gave some good tips on charging plans and tips on Laptop and PDAs.
So when you went out and your gadget’s battery is running low, you may not have a “charging plan” yet.

Constant charging of your batteries will shorten their life. To get the most life out of your batteries you must wait until the battery is drained and then fully charge. It is similar to old video cameras. When the batteries to old VHS video cameras are not fully drained and charged, they often become useless. My parents have 5 or 6 dead batteries for this exact reason, and my best friend’s cell phone lasts nearly 50% longer than it did when he bought it because of correct drain and recharge technique. Sure it’s useful to have a fully charged battery, but how helpful would it be to have your phone last longer without the need to recharge?
David, that’s not true with today’s lithium batteries. They should never be completely drained and are not harmed by keeping them topped off. Older batteries did suffer from the problems you mention but not current ones.
