The 10 Secrets of a Master Networker
Digging through articles on networking – Keith Ferrazzi, CEO of Ferrazzi Greenlight, has given 10 rules of networking. The article is pretty insightful and fun to read. Networking is one of the hard skill to master for business world. However once it is mastered, you can go through personal connections to get useful information and increase the chance of achieving our objectives. Here are 10 rules to become the master of networking:
- Rule 1: Don’t network just to network.
- Rule 2: Take names.
- Rule 3: Build it before you need it.
- Rule 4: Never eat alone.
- Rule 5: Be interesting.
- Rule 6: Manage the gatekeeper. Artfully.
- Rule 7: Always ask.
- Rule 8: Don’t keep score.
- Rule 9: Ping constantly.
- Rule 10: Find anchor tenants. Feed them.
I especially like his little tips on how to engage people on the plane: There’s a trick, however, to making it work. “You’ve got one shot at starting a conversation,” he says, “and that’s when someone is eating. They’re bored and more receptive than at any time during the flight.”

I really hate to say this, but the guy sounds like a real douche bag. Who would aspire to that? Blech.

I like that he views others not as stones to step on in his climb but as climbing partners. He seems to care about the success of others as well as his own.
