Text File Strip Calendar

20040404-cal.png

David Seah created another excellent organizer. This time it is a very small and compact calendar using only text that he calls the Text File Strip Calendar. David explains how he made it and what purpose it serves.

Sometimes it’s handy to be able to quickly make a calendar in your text document for reference. They’re easy to make because you can copy/paste the ..mtwrf characters and paste it over and over again. Same with the 1234567890 characters. The tricky part is knowing the starting and ending days of the month, but it’s easy once you have any given date.

My favorite simple calendar is from Linux, Unix, or OS X command line (terminal) just type:

      cal 2007

To put that in to a text file type:

      cal 2007 > cal2007.txt

(or whatever filename you choose) Then open the .txt file.

Printed out it fits just right taped in the back of my Moleskine.
