TenPlusTwo: Konfabulator Plugin to kill Procrastination

David Greenspan has written a plugin for Konfabulator which uses the idea of Merlin’s (10+2)*5 Procrastination hack. This timer will help you keep track to work for 10 minutes, and then break for 2 mins, repeat for 5 times for an hour.

ThePlusTwo

… Can’t stop procrastinating? Force yourself to work for 10 minutes, then force yourself to take a 2 minute break. Repeat.

Leave this countdown timer running, and it changes colors and plays sounds to indicate what you should be doing.

This is the widget that finally got me over the procrastination to install Konfabulator. It’s very handy. I used it to plow through my HUGE stack of bills and unfiled paperwork two weekends ago, and it really works.

I also use a similar technique to help when I need to get stuff done, but also want to hang out in chat. I use kitten|on20 as a nick, and my friends know I’m available to talk for 20 minutes, and then I switch to kitten|off20, and go do something useful. This is especially helpful if I have to do a task that is boring and can take a while, like packing for a trip.
