Shortcuts for Windows Media Center Edition

Microsoft official homepage has released a very big cheat sheet on shortcuts for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. The Media Center tends to be harder to navigate around, having keyboard and shortcuts should increase your speed to access functions like:

Fast forward live TV or recorded TV - CTRL+SHIFT+F
Rewind live TV or recorded TV - CTRL+SHIFT+B
Play live TV or recorded TV - CTRL+SHIFT+P
Record a TV show - CTRL+R
Go to live TV - CTRL+T
Go to the Guide - CTRL+G
Go to Recorded TV - CTRL+O
Go to My TV - CTRL+SHIFT+T
Go to the DVD menu - CTRL+SHIFT+M

I have often wondered why WMP has such bizarre and scattered hotkeys.

Sh+Ctl+P, then Sh+Ctl+F for forward and playback? I can understand trying to keep the keys similar to the wording of the command ( S+C+P for playback, etc) but Sh+Cyl+B for rewind? People have to jump all over the place for no real reason.

I think they should take a cue from Winamp and place them all in a row or bunch that are related by relative position instead of letter association. Winamp has a lovely set of default hotkeys, and their global hotkeys are very simple and configurable as well.

I agree, it is a bit bizarre. I think the developer has not thought too much on the shortcut usabilities at all. That’s why I think one should print out this shortcuts sheet and stick in front of the TV or monitor ;)
