Maybe it’s just me, but this list doesn’t exactly seem very practical. What’s the use of a list of 160 PIMs? I’m not going to ever have time to try each and every one of the out; especially if I have nothing to manage my time… get it? No? Oh well.
I appreciate the time you took to put this together, but seriously… can you just give me your favorite, or maybe a top 10?
Once again, thank you for the time and effort you put into doing this.

I agree with the previous poster. A ranking of the programs would make this list useful.

Time & Chaos is one of the best PIMs I’ve ever come across, and have used it for many years.
Unsurpassed in most aspects; try it !
Version 5 is freeware and available at http://www.chaossoftware.com/

Sorry guys for I could have listed them in order of performance or features but did try each and everyone. I figured no two people are alike and wouldn’t like the same but there are some that really stand out. I have several others on the site if you’d like the check them out. http://www.freepims.com , Thanks for some of the ones I missed. I can’ wait to try Time and Chaos out that ’s free because I have tried the trial and it was super.

I agree with the rating comment. What’s good?
Like most hangers on, I got onto this life-hack stuff from the NYTimes article in December 05, I think it was. I’ve been eating it up since then. And wasting tremendous amounts of time, pretending to be doing real work, while trying out new software. And nothing seems to do it well enough.
I began collecting articles and reading material as .doc files, because, well, I had MSWord at the office, free of charge. When I began to realize that that might not be such a good idea, I began to save them as .txt files. So now I have all this reference material as .txt files on my computer, and what I would dearly love is some program that will come along and load all of them (in all their various and sundry formats – .doc, .txt, .odt, .rtf, .html, .etc), link them up into one big tiddly-wiki, so that I can go through and make some order.
Is that too much to ask for? Isn’t there something like that already out there?

Thank you so much! I’ve been trying most of these. Thanks for putting the reviews and links all in the same location! [yay to software testing] So far my favs are ePIM, evernote, and zulupad. ePim is most complete but is lacking in its notes features; more robust features and hyperlinking would make it complete. Gobinder is great, but no spell check..and a few other glitches that I can’t remember at the moment.

Thank you for taking the time to put together such an awesome list. I may never use all, but in todays world of fragmented info, its good to have one defragged list I can return to henever I need.

Well, what you said about individual people having different needs is bang on. I tried Time & Chaos, the freeware version, and it sucks. When you try to map fields for import from a csv file, there is NO option for email and you have to link it to a custom field…in which case, the default mailto: field of T&C remains blank so you have to open a contact to see his email ID and can’t see it by just selecting the contact (like you can see phone numbers)

Is there supposed to be pornography scattered through the list?
Kurt says on January 20th, 2008 at 3:12 am
Looks like this page somehow got hacked. Lots of porn sites and PSP sites scattered throughout the real list.
