These are good ideas. My approach is to go to the library (free) and pick up what appeals to me. Then, I might buy the book although I have been seriously cutting back on the number of books I buy (collect). The library approach is good because you’re not committed to the book and if you hate it, you just stop reading. Also, if the book is mediocre but references other information, you can go get that one.

I also use simply audio and get audiobooks to listen to in my car. If I like the book well enough, then I might buy it. Or it will make me think of someone and I will give the book to them. I can usually buy these books for really cheap off of Amazon’s partner sites or ALibris.

For me the library’s a great solution, otherwise there’s a possibility of ending up in “analysis paralysis” and just flipping on the TV.
