I’m at BarCamp Boston, an unconference being hosted in Monster.com’s headquarters. I’m surrounded by really brilliant people, mostly representing themselves, their small startups, their side jobs. I’ll tell you something:
Learn to Connect
- Bring business cards. Get them made by someone like VistaPrint or make them at Staples. Whatever. But get some cards, and pass them around.
- Share your passion. Talk with people about what it is you’re interested in doing. Tell them about your passions, even if you haven’t fully realized them. Talk as if you know what you’re interested in, if not what you’ve already done.
- Reconnect. Get folks to share their contact info, and send emails after the show. Call them. Set up small things to do as follow-on activities. Don’t just smile and leave.
More from BarCamp Boston as I go.

Chris, your bright orange business cards for BarCamp were perfect! Helped you stand out and added professionalism to your appearance at the event.
