Isn’t it cool! This is Jonathan Aquino’s version of Aeron Ergonomic Chair:

All you need are a regular chair, a telephone book, a cutting board, a towel, and a bungee cord (or belt) – you too can taste the great lower-back support:
… The height can be adjusted by simply adding or removing books from the base of the seat. I first used a telephone book, but I am finding that old encyclopedias provide more finely grained control and a wider base…
Ingenious invention!

The presentation leaves to be desired, eh ? Not sure I’d place one of these in my office. It would attract some comments for sure :-)

how about leaving the directory there but covering with foam, then upholstering it yourself? not sure what id do with the upper bit though :S
The author admits in the comments that he’s going to spend money on a proper chair because “it is indeed painful to sit on a phonebook”.
Hilarious article, not a lifehack.
Ergonomically, that’s a disaster, not a lifehack. Lumbar support means filling in the area where the lordotic curve should rest. This requires a gentle slope, not a band of rug. That contraption is likely to compress the spine (especially on the low end, at L5-S1), cause poor posture, and will lead to all sorts of mischief. Categorize this one under “don’t try this at home, folks.”
Sorry, That’s not ergo!
Especially if sitting on a book is going to cause you discomfort (and who wouldn’t find that to be a pain in the … well, you know.
OK so it’s funny but a proper Ergonomic office chair is a must for anyone who spends more than 2 hours a day in a office chair.
Funny though.
. I never seen anything like this before. Thanks for sharing your post. I love it.
