Disable Mac OS X Tiger Dashboard

If you don’t like the Dashboard because it is dragging down your memory or performance, or you just don’t like the extra bit in Mac OS X 10.4. Mac OS X Things has a way of disabling dashboard. You can disable (or re-enable it) by:

To turn Dashboard off:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

To turn Dashboard on:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO

You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect:
killall Dock
