Cheap way to Cool your Laptop

Michael Leddy has done a quick hack on his laptop. He bought a bakeware made by Ekco, which cost $3.99 at an outlet store. Putting this underneath of the laptop will help to ventilate the heat:

Cool Laptop

A cheap and simple way to help cool a laptop: use bakeware. My cooling rack, made by Ekco, cost $3.99 at an outlet store. With this rack and a tiny desk fan, my laptop runs 8 to 10 degrees cooler than it used to.

Formulaic disclaimer: Placing a computer on a piece of bakeware might lead to scratches or other damage, so be careful…

I’d think twice about putting my laptop on a metal bakers cooling rack. You may be better of spending the 40 bucks for Antec’s cooling pad. It has a couple of fans to keep thins cool.

I wouldn’t like the sound made by a cooling rack scratching my desk. I use a set of four Scotch-Brite type scrubbing pads under my laptop. They are also a bit hard on my desk surface, but they are nice and quiet. The pads suspend the computer about 1/4 inch above my desk.

There’s no noise or scratching, at least not with what I’m using — the cooling rack has a non-stick surface, so it’s very smooth. : )

Heck, I just use two rubber doorstops from the junk drawer cost: $0.

I use a leftover piece of wire shelving from a the closet trac system it puts my machine at a nice angle with plenty of ventilation and wire management built in. Also since the whole thing is covered in a rubbery plastic it does not slip or mar my desk top
