5 Things to Bring to College

Christopher S. Penn does the impossible: he records a daily podcast about financial aid and student loans, and he makes it interesting. The most recent episode I listened to (#331 by the way) had a really great list for college students heading back in a few weeks to their next semester. The list is interesting, but when you listen to the podcast, Chris goes into explaining why he thinks these tools are necessary but overlooked by folks heading back to school.

  • A Laptop
  • A Digital Camera
  • A Knife (for utility purposes, silly)
  • A Stored Value Card (in lieu of credit card)
  • A USB (or VoIP) headset

Like I say, the explanations make this an interesting and useful list.

A pocket knife is truly an essential. I try to always carry a knife, lighter and a clean handkerchief.

In addition, I’d recommend a USB Flash drive and a pocket-size datebook with a small pen.
