I just wished it had flavour.

Don’t energy drinks have loads of water in them anyway?

  • Bernard says on September 11th, 2006 at 3:36 pm

That’s interesting! I just wish we can get some informations on how we get those benefits.

  • Rob says on September 11th, 2006 at 5:01 pm

Water is water no matter where you get it from, even a piece of lettuce. It’s all good. There is the thought, however, that drinking all that water also washes out the nutrients gained from the food eaten.

  • Science Guy says on September 11th, 2006 at 5:02 pm

Sorry by this is crap. You should drink water as you are thirsty. Drinking water when you are not thirsty can be SERIOUSLY bad for you. If you drink too much water you will flush out your elecrolites, which can cause a whole host of problems (such as muscle cramping etc). Excess water also adds to bloating feeling and can lead to high blood pressure etc. Drinking water = good, but only as your body requires it.

  • zcworld says on September 11th, 2006 at 5:02 pm

    lol tha-flash
well yes they do but saying that u can say coffee has a lot of water in it
but the problem is the caffine in the drink’s

i think they missing one on the list

“Sorry by this is crap. You should drink water as you are thirsty.”

That isn’t really true. Being thirsty is a sign that you are ALREADY dehydrated. Since your body only absorbes so much water, it will take more to re-hydrate at this point than it would have to just stay hydrated and seldom be thirsty.

  • Owned says on September 11th, 2006 at 5:44 pm

Dumbass YOU CAN DRINK AS MUCH WATER AS YOU LIKE
BODY BUILDERS DRINK GALLONS A DAY and THEIR HEALTHIER THAN YOU WILL EVER BE FUCKING WANNABE
SCIENCE GUY lol i DRINK ALOT ONLY SIDE AFFECT IS PISSING EVRY HOUR RETARD

  • Science Guy says on September 11th, 2006 at 6:00 pm

    @Owned:
You know body builders eat a proper balanced diet and exercise very well. Also they usually have professionals analying their urine to ensure there isn’t too much spillover of sodium etc. And let’s face it, most people out there do not take proper care of their bodies, so telling them that drinking more water, excessive amounts is good for them is wrong. I am not saying drinking water is bad, it just should be done in moderation.

I suggest you read some scientific articles on kidney function. If you drink too much water you WILL stress your kidneys. You will also force anything water soluble out of your system, such as vitamin C, potasium, etc.

I also stand corrected by nodeg, as they are correct. You are thirsty because levels of ADH rise in your body, meaning you are already somewhat dehydrated. But you can still overdo it.

Is writing in ALL CAPS and sounding like an idiot also a side effect of drinking too much water? (Besides the obvious “pissing every hour retard” side-effect.)

  • Owned says on September 11th, 2006 at 9:46 pm

LOl at the Guy who replied me YEs obiously YOUR Suppose TO eat Healthy with a balanced diet ok by the time you drink excessively you will throw up (sign 2 stop drinking) dont bullshit me about water is bad lol next thing you know u gonna bullshit me that ciggaretets are healthier than water LMFAO point is u will not die or ever have complications because of drinking water. Body builders only check their blood ok im a Profession trainer. Ps who the fuck would drink Crazy amounts of water at a time? you can drink as much as you want as long as the water doesnt make you gag or puke.

lol americans these day are scared by very useless info this day. lol next thing you know the soap you use to wash ur self can be harmful!!!!!

  • Richard says on September 11th, 2006 at 10:26 pm

    Hey Owned:

You are an idiot. Excessive water consumption can lead to renal failure and DEATH, because you dilute the electrolytes and salts in your body so badly (and flush them out) that osmosis fails to occur, and your kidneys shut down. Osmosis only works because of a difference in concentration of a solution on either side of a “barrier”, and if you excessively dilute the salts in your blood, osmosis stops. Dead.

And no, I’m not some alarmist American on a fear campaign to scare everyone into not drinking water. I’m Australian, and I actually possess what’s commonly known as “general knowledge”, i.e. things you should know if you haven’t been living under a rock.

Do your homework and prove to everyone that you actually have a brain before you go TYPING IN CAPS AT PEOPLE about how dumb they are.

There are documented cases where people have died from excessive water consumption. Go read about it. You do know how to read, don’t you? Maybe ask if there’s an encylopaedia ALL IN CAPS AND LACKING PUNCTUATION SO THAT U CAN READ IT LOL

P.S. If you’re a “profession trainer”, I feel very badly for your clients and hope they live to see their next respective birthdays.

  • Brian says on September 11th, 2006 at 10:37 pm

You have to drink something over a gallon of water or more a day to be harmful. I know this, because I have researched it, and I have drank close to a gallon of water a day, since I was 14. I am not 32. I am the healthiest person I know. Yes there is a toxicity too water, in overdilluting your system. You will not hit it. You should probably drink at least twice as much water as you currently are.

I drink 2 coffee’s, 1 pop a day. The rest is water, and only water. Before the 20th century, humans drank almost purely water all day.

  • Richard says on September 11th, 2006 at 10:49 pm

I think “GALLONS A DAY (LOL LMFAO I’M DUMB LOOK AT ME)” that Mr Capslock was referring to might count as excessive. Also, a lot of people fail to take into account the amount of water they consume in foods etc as well, like someone said, in lettuce.

It is difficult to drink that much water but in some cases, i.e. physical training, marathons etc people have been known to hit that nasty barrier and keel over, because they already have low sodium content as a result of the exercise.

  • RealMonster says on September 11th, 2006 at 11:21 pm

To reach the point where you’re diluting electrolytes, you really have to be drinking a tremendous amount of water, or drinking a lot of water while exercising without replenishing those electrolytes somehow. If you drink 4 litres a day and eat like a normal person, you won’t hurt yourself. Almost nobody drinks enough water. You know that 2-3pm period at the office where you’re tired? You’re probably dehydrated. Have a couple glasses of water instead of coffee, and you’ll feel a lot better. There’s nothing wrong with drinking clean water throughout the day.

  • dude999 says on September 11th, 2006 at 11:58 pm

Too much of anything can kill you.

  • travo says on September 12th, 2006 at 12:17 am

Nowhere did it say to drink water 24/7 numb nuts, just says you should drink more water.

Since it’s a fact that most people don’t drink their recommended amount of water.

I’m led to believe “drink more water” means drink the recommended amount, nobody said anything about overdosing.

  • josh says on September 12th, 2006 at 12:42 am

Water is a very excellent for your body. I suggest purchasing a Nalgene bottle. It’s a 32 ounce bottle thats almost indestructible and doesn’t spill. I carry it in my bag to school and in my backpack on my bike. As far as drinking to much water… people can usually tell what there body needs. For me I eat allot of salts which is electrolytes. I know when my body needs salt. anyways, stay healthy, and always carry water with you.

  • tim says on September 12th, 2006 at 9:53 am

Sure water is water, it is great, I drink water (hot) just to help expel toxins (flush the system every morning ant through out the day). Water on its own as apposed to juice or water in lettuce doesn’t need digesting, so it has many benefits that are not related to water in food or drink which are primarily use to distribute micro nutrients and minerals.

For the same reason you don’t washed things in tea or coffee (or lettuce juice), water can dissolve toxins easier if it is good water. distilled water can do the same in extreme cases but student’s be drunk regularly because it can dissolve valuable trace minerals like calcium.

  • Andrew says on September 12th, 2006 at 10:06 am

Why is everyone making a big deal over this?
Water is good for you , so drink more of it instead of soft drinks .

  • Homer says on September 12th, 2006 at 10:36 am

A couple of points. As Andrew said, it is good for you and most people don’t drink enough of it. If you drank water instead of some (or all) sodas, coffees etc each day, you would not be drinking too much water.

Second, historically, people avoided water when possible, especially in urban areas due to conamination and illness. Modern technology has made it safe and it is now very popular. I watched a show on the History Channel about the history of water usage.

  • Matthew says on September 12th, 2006 at 10:51 am

It appears that you lot on here could start a punch up in a telephone box - Listen to you all sniping away at each other, getting stressed out. Calm down, for pity’s sake and grow up. Perhaps it’s all that caffeine?! ;-)

Water is excellent for you, but obviously gurgling gallons of the stuff is not going to be beneficial. The phrase “everything in moderation” springs to mind. I ride my mountain bike a lot, and on a 2 hour ride I’ll make it through a couple of litres at least (way more on a hot day, but we don’t get that many of those here in England!). However, when I’m not riding I don’t need as much, so I drink what I need. I’m no doctor, but I’m smart enough to know that if I feel thirsty my body is telling me it needs more. If you’ve had a night on the tiles and feel hung over then water is THE way to go. It’s great for flushing all the toxins through your system.

I think Andrew hit the nail on the head; Replace all those Cokes and Sprites with water and you won’t be doing yourself any harm. You need to drink a lot (an uncomfortable amount) of water to really do yourself some damage, but I don’t doubt that there’s some vacuous moron out there who has managed to do it. In fact, speaking of morons, I seem to remember an MP here who ended up in hospital after drinking too much. I can only imagine the sloshing around going on inside his stomach.

    Peace….

  • Zack says on September 12th, 2006 at 11:44 am

Water is only harmful (possibly fatal) at extreme amounts.

A half gallon of water can kill you…

If someone drops it on your head from about 50 feet in the air.

Hell, a bottle of Evian could kill you that way too. Better be safe, and stop drinking Evian too! And encourage your water-drinking friends not to go up above you in tall buildings. Then you’ll be safe.

  • G says on September 12th, 2006 at 6:53 pm

    - brian -

Actually before the 20th Century (and in other parts of the world) water was also drunk in “flavoured” form - wine, ale, tea etc…

  • Bill Nadraszky says on September 12th, 2006 at 7:09 pm

In fact water is great for you and I have always been a big fan of drinking water. I tend to drink a big big glass of water first thing in the morning before I hit the bike for the ride to work. I try to drink a lot of water because it gives me better concentration and with all the junk I eat it kind of flushes all of the coffee and sugar through me

  • Will says on September 12th, 2006 at 7:26 pm

The smartest thing to do is just drink it when you are thirsty, I run and when ever i drink it excessively I am fatigued and feel tired out which is because of the loss of those minerals and carbs that the water just flushes out. Another thing that sucks though is that even though they say they clean our water, they really don’t, they say they find traces of hormones and other junk because of all the crap people dump, and just random traces of bad stuff.

Drinking water is for people who have not discovered green tea. BTW, how does Coke justify charging a buck for a small bottle of factory filtered water?

  • tigerlilly says on September 14th, 2006 at 11:50 pm

but alot of water companies put exessive flouride in water that can lead to bone dieases such as (forgive my spelling) ostieoporosis and bone pain. It could also lead to stomach cancer and other stomach ailments.

4.6PPM is the what water companies normally put into water and it’s too exessive. so please filter water when nessicary and buy distilled or water purified and flouride removed.

  • Science Guy says on September 15th, 2006 at 10:13 am

    @tigerlilly:
They usually display their ppms on the bottle and while flouride can kill you, the amount in most water, such as city water, is actually GOOD for you. It helps prevent teeth decay, and it does play a an important role in bone development and maintenance. Distilled water can be very dangerous. Drinking only distilled can screw your system up (note the effects of putting distilled water into your bloodstream vs water with some dissolved minerals).

If you really want to stick away from fluride, don’t use non-stick pans and stay away from anything Teflon. It hasn’t been approved by the FDA (it was never intended on being eaten) and you know what it is composed of? Carbon + Fluroine.

Oh and to whoever suggested green tea, nice :) I love the stuff and it has been shown to be great for your body.

  • Kyle Style says on October 4th, 2006 at 3:41 pm

Im surprised science guy that you dont know this considering your claiming to be the science guy. okay, the first thing this list did is show how many idiots there are out there. yes its true that some people have died from drinking to much water but that is very rare and how some people get this concreted in thier head is silly. its the same arguement people use for not wearing seatbelts. seatbelts can kill you in a burning car. its true that seatbelts have caused fatalities, but the truth is more deaths are related to dehydration than drinking to much water. so whats the answer? buckle your seatbelts and shut up about drinking to much water.

  • Tamara says on December 15th, 2006 at 1:31 pm

Here’s my test. For a week, I drank minimal amounts of water, only when I was thirsty. I struggled to wake up so early each morning for college at 7am. The next week, I started drinking a pint of water when I got up, two throughout the day and some water before I went to bed each night. I woke up on the dot at 7am ready to go. Regardless of whether or not it was a plecibo (however you spell it) it worked. DO IT!

you stuff is wrong it has been proven that if you are either eating 3 meals a day, or 2 meals with plenty of snacking, and a couple glasses of water a day your are getting more than enough of your required water for the day. so there is no reason to drink more water

  • Chris Grooms says on June 20th, 2007 at 4:52 pm

To those of you getting antsy over this. You need to step off your high chair, thinking you are so much smarter than everyone else. You’re coming into an Internet conversation, telling us that we shouldn’t drink water and that an article that lists reasons to drink water is wrong, because water can kill us? Water kills in massive quantities and to maintain optimal health we require large amounts of it compared to what the typical human being consumes.

In other words, get a life. You make no sense whatsoever and are a troll.

  • Brent says on June 20th, 2007 at 5:35 pm

  • Dr. Alex says on June 20th, 2007 at 8:59 pm

Our bodies excrete/consume about 6 cups of water in a 24 hour period thru normal metabolic processes (your body will use 6 cups even if you are a complete couch potato). So, at the end of the day, your body will be in a fluid deficiency of 6 cups if you have not eaten any food or liquid. Our bodies are constantly losing water (perspiration, saliva, urine, etc). This is why water is essential to our well-being.

  • Honky says on June 20th, 2007 at 9:06 pm

Drinking too much water leads to a weakening of your cell structure. Many cultures do not rely on massive amounts fresh water intake for survival instead they rely on the food they eat to provide them with proper nourishment.

One of the marketing successes of our time is that consumers have been talked into buying bottled water in Canada.
Amazing - best water in the world.
They pay for it and carry this water long distances to the car - up flights of stairs.
Bad for pollution , bad for the enviornment - plastic bottles, refuse , waste , transportation and energy costs and bad for the fish and wildlife in the end.
In the end the same water comes out of your tap or the bottle or water jug.
The water all comes out of the same lake or lakes.

I just came on to check this out im sure some people don’t read the top bit when it give’s you the reason’s why you should drink but look’s like you came here just to flame main person Owned although he got pwned himself.

I just want to get something sorted and don’t laugh >_> because this is confusing the hell out of me but if you drink pop you get everything that what water give’s you and whatever is in the pop??? Im asking because I don’t drink much water just a 2L of pop a day and i’ve got bad skin and major problem’s with waking up and going to sleep =/, can it be slighty effecting me at all?

I know I don’t drink anything else much except beer and the odd glass of milk every know and again but sometime’s I just drink pop for a week without anything else, so im confused because I drink pop and I don’t die from not drinking water or anything and arn’t you “supossed” to die after three day’s without water or just over???

Confusing myself now but if someone help me with this I be very thankful.

  • myself says on July 6th, 2007 at 10:45 pm

hey for the morons saying too much water is bad for you, youre so wrong. google water calculator and enter your details, thats how much water you should drink per day. i mean everyone should know our bodies are made up of 85% water. we need water to function properly. you also lose water weight just by drinking water. yes, geniuses cool water burns calories and helps flush toxins from your body. ive been drinking half a gallon a day for a month now, and ive lost 10 pounds. so yeah, drink up imbeciles! case closed.

Beer? Are you overweight by any chance? Do you have acne? Anyway, you’re not “dying” from not drinking water for 3 days because you’re eating food that contain water in them. You might be dehydrated and all, but you are drinking fluids (just not good ones). Beer, and pop are filled with empty calories (which make you gain unnecessary weight, and give you bad skin!). The rule is drink 2 glasses of water for every pop/soda you drink per day.

About the argument on water being harmful, there is actually such a thing as poinsoning from excess amount of water drank…BUT that is only if you dont urinate and get out the toxins. Urination and not urinating are the difference between if you get or not. End of story. There was a radio station who had a girl die of it cuz u had to drink but not go to the bathroom and whoever lasted the longest would win a Nintendo Wii. And well the guy won by default becuase the girl died.

I have a very good guide for eating right etc….and I’d just like to point out this guy has asked a lot of experts…and most of them say and aim for 8 pints of water a day…thats about a galloon a day…i mean its the most natural resource ever….been on the planet since time began..if its clean it should be good at any amount….i mean maybe theres mixed messages about is to much to bad or good….then i think someone needs to research and come up with proper facts
