This Ad Campaign Is Challenging Unattainable Beauty Standards


Recently there has been more pushback against the way society sees beauty and what it means to be beautiful in our society. People — men and women alike — are acknowledging that the expectations society has for women are almost exclusively unrealistic and ridiculous.

This is where the #StopTheBeautyMadness campaign comes in. Its ads feature images of models with messages that criticize the beauty industry and point out just how insane many requirements can be for women. They seek to boost confidence and tear down the ridiculous beauty standards held by society. The website also includes a blog, for those of you who would prefer to read more in-depth about these issues along with empowering selfies submitted by women around the globe.

There are many similar campaigns going on right now — which is great for women! — but #StopTheBeautyMadness goes above and beyond. While other campaigns focus solely on weight, there are many other ways that women are pressured other than their waistline. Women of color tend to feel ignored by the beauty industry, as do women who are post-menopausal. #StopTheBeautyMadness includes women of all ages, sizes, and races in their FrontLine Voices, a collection of articles and blog posts about women’s representation in the media.
