64 Interview Answers You Should Know

64 Interview Answers You Should Know

Although your next job interview won’t have as many as 64 questions, your would-be employer will almost certainly ask at least one of these.

Tell me about yourself.

TRAPS: Beware, about 80% of all interviews begin with this “innocent” question. Many candidates, unprepared for the question, skewer themselves by rambling, recapping their life story, delving into ancient work history or personal matters.

BEST ANSWER: Start with the present and tell why you are well qualified for the position. Remember that the key to all-successful interviewing is to match your qualifications to what the interviewer is looking for. In other words you must sell what the buyer is buying. This is the single most important strategy in job hunting.

Reading through this list it’s hard to come up with something CrackInterview have missed. Know of any new questions that may trip up applicants?

I was appalled at some of the strategies for answering these questions. I felt that the premise was that you could only get the job by lying about yourself, at the very least being less than completely honest, which seems like a good recipe for a mis-match. I’m sure you’ll respond with something like “these techniques are about presenting yourself in a good light, so as not to disqualify yourself early”, but really, if you can’t be honest with your employer, how can you ever be sure that the two of you will get along?

I disagree somewhat with number 3, tell me about your greatest weaknesses. A decent interviewer can see through an answer like, “I work too hard.”

I would suggest a better weakness is an area that you could improve on. For example, my skills as a manager aren’t that great. I would explain how the job appeals to me because of the opportunities it will give me to improve those skills.

Well, it was a good run. But at this point, Crackinterview was closed a couple months ago. Hopefully they’ll re-open it again and post the interview material; while not the “alpha & omega” or accurate on all points, it was a useful starting point for brushing up on interview skills.
